To learn more about Filippo, we sat down with him to chat about his experience with Paris Air and learn what it takes to become a pilot.
Why did you decide to become a pilot?
I always had an interest in aviation. It started with a fascination towards anything mechanically related. When you ask a kid what they want to be when they grow up, many times they’ll say astronaut or pilot. I guess this idea stuck with me. Initially, I was scared of the idea of becoming a pilot because I thought it would be hard. But eventually, I decided to embark on this journey and take a leap of faith to pursue my dreams.
What was your experience like when learning to fly?
I started just before COVID, so when COVID hit, there were many challenges. I had to persist, like everyone else. Paris Air provided a supportive environment where I was able to thrive and grow in my passion for aviation.
What led you to become a flight instructor?
One of the best ways to fly after getting your license is to become a flight instructor. I wanted to stay with Paris Air because the environment is like a big family. If we have any problems, we can go straight to Paris, and he will resolve them. He makes sure that his business runs properly.
As instructors, we have a lot of liberty with making our own schedules. This flexibility allows us to build our lives around it.This was particularly alluring to me.
What advice do you have for those wanting to become a student pilot?
Just start. I started not knowing anything. You can start by coming to a flight school and just asking questions to figure out the best plan of action. It’s also a good idea to try it out and fly in a plane before committing. With that in mind, the moment you take off, you’ll be hooked.
What are the most important qualities for a pilot to have?
First of all, it’s important to have good hand-eye coordination and situational awareness. Skills in basic math are also essential. Besides that, it is always good to have a willingness to learn and be consistent.
While you can teach most people how to fly, you cannot teach a person to become a pilot. What makes a pilot is the person themself. A pilot is truly committed to aviation and learning.
Filippo’s Pro-Tip: I wouldn’t discourage anyone who has some struggles with the controls at the beginning. After some practice, it becomes natural.
What are some of your favorite aspects of Paris Air as a flight instructor?
At Paris Air, everyone is treated equally. It’s an environment that promotes growth, and we do so by setting goals and holding students accountable. This allows students to become the best pilots they can be.
What is the curriculum at Paris Air like?
We are a Part 141 flight school, so we begin with ground school. Once ground school is completed, we proceed to the flying portion. During each rating, we have lessons that involve both ground school and flying. That way, students can learn what they need to know before applying their knowledge.
Why should students choose Paris Air?
If they want to get their license in a timely and flexible manner, Paris Air is the flight school to choose! We have a multitude of planes and instructors, so there are plenty of resources. The diversity amongst instructors allows you to find a fit with someone you collaborate and learn well from.
We also offer some of the most competitive prices. In terms of safety, we hold ourselves to high standards and continuously maintain our aircrafts–one of the most important things to evaluate when selecting a flight school.
